09 Jun The watchword is… opportunity
Before this pandemic experience, the real changes that can bring about today’s technological evolutions were probably not well considered. Perhaps due to lack of knowledge and lack of awareness? Is it because we often are suspicious about what’s new? Working anywhere and at any time it was in the air for a while, but it had never been approached as a real mode of work for many. At the end of 2019, 570,000 smart workers were counted and the number rose to more than 1.8 million during lockdown, according to osservatorio.net and to the Italian Ministry of Labor.
A considerable increase in such a short time is proof that technological tools already existed and shows that it has put aside that mentality for which “it has always been so”. A work organization that has seen a cultural review and which is based on greater flexibility and autonomy in the choice of hours and workspaces, in the tools to be used and greater accountability of resources.
In retrospect, which beneficial effects have been brought to us thanks to this situation? Will we reassess this perspective full of potentialities?
· Time reassessment. We’ve saved time spent every day on home-work-home transfers. Rome, for example, is among the most congested cities in the world, and the first in Italy. Let’s consider even just an average 30 minute journey, per day already becomes 1 hour, and in a week it translates into 5 hours, which in a month of lockdown counts 26 hours for 26 working days; the result is more than a day earned rather than wasted in traffic. In a year, considering 1 day a week of remote work, you get to about 40 hours. Time that could be usefully reinvested.
· Reducing transfer costs (petrol, transport, tolls)
· Improving work-life balance
· Reducing pollution
· Reducing traffic
It is a change of mindset to work’s approach based on trust, collaboration and accountability, but it is also a change of business mode that will be considered by many companies and organizations, and that will lead to more and more digital skills and which will meet needs of people, businesses and society as a whole. Not forgetting that it helps to make our cities more sustainable too. This is not a field in which you can improvise, the company must enjoy a flexible architecture that adapts to the future evolution of places, times, innovative tools, and that at the same time are protected and managed safely both by the company and by resources. Having an experienced professional technology IT partner at your side allows you to identify models and methodologies coherent with the real needs of your business, to undertake a proper and conscious use of technologies aiming to optimize productivity and tending to the maximum security of computer systems, devices, data and people. Another true demonstration of IT never stops assuring business continuity at any time.
